First Back to Basics Worship Night | How it went!

Stepping out in faith and obedience to what you believe God is calling you to do isn’t always an easy thing, but we did it, and our worship night was the first of many steps to come.

On Saturday 16th November 2024, we held our first worship night which we called Back to Basics. We’ve been challenged over the past year or so about our approach to our church gatherings, as we believe He has something new for us here.

The Intention | Worship Nights

The intention of our first event was to provide a space where simplicity was at its core. A time for stripped back worship without interruption, time for the word to be brought, room for the Holy Spirit to do His work among us, prayer for those in need, and also where our focus was on Jesus and not ourselves. It can be a challenge to momentarily set aside our own problems, and to simply exalt Him for an evening. Using carefully considered songs that do exactly that, we can be sure that things will happen among us!

We found a venue (Tuckton Christian Centre in Bournemouth) that was neutral to those we knew from many different church backgrounds who had expressed an interest in joining us for this gathering. With only two weeks notice for those we had invited, our estimation was that perhaps twenty people would be there. Amazingly, word had spread and we ended up with just over forty people at this first event.

Our worship team consisted of keys, bass and two singers. The word brought by Pastor Ralph Winter-Smith (Author of Pastors’ Stuff and Jesus our Healer) stirred hearts as he encouraged us about the abundant life we have in Jesus from John 10. The prayer offered during our closing time of worship visibly touched several lives with reports that one was healed of a long term health issue (more to follow).  We weren’t tied to a strict schedule, we kept it simple and had no fear of moments of silence in His presence, and His people were encouraged.

The thing that really struck us afterwards was the unity among us all, despite the number of different church denominations and backgrounds that were represented in the same room. Some openly operating in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, whilst others were a little cautious, yet with Jesus being the focus, differences didn’t seem to hinder at all.

Was it worth it? Absolutely! Could there have been more? Of course, but we did what we could and the rest is up to Him.

We’d like to thank TCC for the use of their facilities and to all of you who came along. We hope it encouraged you and look forward to seeing you again in 2025.

After this trial run, 2025 will be the beginning of something new!
