The Bible uses the word ‘sin’ (Greek word hamartia) which translates as ‘miss the mark’.
In the book of Genesis in the Bible, we read that God created the heavens and earth and all that is in it including Mankind made in His image. It was perfect, there was no pain or suffering, and the first of Mankind, Adam & Eve had a very close relationship with God Himself.
Adam & Eve had everything, but they were tempted to disobey God and made a choice that changed everything. They disobeyed Him and at that point they ‘missed the mark’, they sinned, and from then onwards death entered. All of their descendants were now born into sin and close fellowship with God was broken.
So what? Well, God is holy and just. For God to overlook sin makes Him unjust, and for a just God, there must be justice for wrong doing, for sin, for missing the mark. Without a solution, only death remains and punishment for sin. We could blame Adam, but each of us have free will and we miss God’s standard on a daily basis.
Where’s the GOOD NEWS?
God is also a God of LOVE. He PROVIDED a solution in JESUS His only Son. Read Romans 5:8
