A full house | Update on recent Worship Nights

As our monthly gatherings have continued on into 2026 we have been encouraged by an increase in attendance at our Back to Basics Worship Nights in Bournemouth. What is most fascinating is that despite our efforts to increase our reach on social media and to build a mailing list, those efforts are seemingly making very little impact, yet we’re seeing amazing things happen. It’s all too easy to get caught up with branding and marketing efforts, but when those things are slow to gain traction, prayer, faith and turning up prepared is all we’ve got and so that’s what we’ve been doing and will continue to do with or without an online following.

Not enough seats!

At our gathering in May there were very few spare seats available as the number of people in attendance approached fifty. We have noticed numbers increase a little each month this year. It’s a small cosy venue that can cater for approximately seventy-five if we start to overflow into the adjoining room. This past weekend at our June gathering we had just under sixty people, we ran out of chairs, and the main space was pretty full. It’s amazing to see so many people attending from so many different church traditions, all with an increased desire to seek after God’s heart through worship.

It’s more than just numbers!

Whilst we’re encouraged by the increase in attendance, it’s what’s happening that is far more encouraging and important. The room is full of people from different backgrounds including many for whom life has not been straightforward, but the presence, peace and compassion of God in the room has been tangible. The words of comfort, the sense of compassion instead of judgement, all with unity and such honesty among those gathered that it can only be the work of the Holy Spirit within His church. We’ve seen two people turn to Jesus for the first time since we started, and many others receiving prayer as they pursue all that God has for them.

What’s changed?

We’ve not changed our format or tried anything different to make things attractive, that isn’t our goal. Our formula is simple. Keep it simple, remove all unnecessary interruptions and make our song choices upward, about Jesus, and less about us, being mindful of reverence as we navigate the time together. A short inspired word, and enough time for the Holy Spirit to minister as He wills. With a brief welcome out of the way, once our worship starts, the only content you’ll see is worship, word, Spirit and ministry time, everything else happens outside of that time. It really is that simple.

Worship Themes

It’s interesting to review the themes that we have been led to build into our worship gatherings over recent months. We’ve had a theme of Jesus Kingship, the greatness of His Name, Holiness and in June the simple phrase ‘King Jesus’ became our anthem as inspired by the song ‘King Jesus’ by Brooke Ligertwood which brought us into what can only be described as a holy moment.

The Word

We believe that Worship is more than just singing. For us, a worship evening without the inclusion of scripture leaves something missing and for this reason we always have a short pause in our sung worship to listen to a timely word from a trusted speaker. Why? To study His word is a part of our worship, as is prayer and pursuing a deeper relationship with our Saviour.

Thank you

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Tuckton Christian Centre in Bournemouth for making their venue available for us to hold these gatherings. We’d also like to thank Author and Pastor Ralph Winter-Smith for speaking at several of this year’s gatherings. Check out his books on Amazon. We’d also like to thank those who have attended one or more of our Worship Nights. We’ve been so encouraged by your support and hope to see you again soon.

A different approach to leading worship

Quite a number of people have acknowledged the difference in the approach taken to leading worship, the song choices, musical style and interaction with the room. We’re open to share more on this if you’re interested, so please do get in touch and we’ll connect you with our worship leader.

Join us on Saturday 4th July 2026 at 7PM for our next gathering. Hope to see you there!
